Summary: This book contains information at two levels. The descriptive paragraphs contain anatomical facts presented with sufficient detail to assist medical students to pass their qualifying examination in anatomy, and also to aid qualified doctors to revise their knowledge of anatomy in preparation for certain postgraduate diplomas. The summary paragraphs with missing key words are intended to do two things. Firstly, they provide a resumé or abstract of the descriptive paragraph which, if the key words are correctly noted, will allow of rapid revision; if read initially in conjunction with the descriptive paragraphs, a mental link will be formed, so that when revision is necessary the summary paragraphs will enable this association to be revised. Secondly, they provide sufficient anatomical information to enable nurses, radiographers and physiotherapists to satisfy their examination requirements. Anatomy is largely a 'visual' subject; most students find it easier to build up a mental picture of anatomical structures if they study dissections, photographs and diagrams. It is recommended that some experimentation is carried out to enable the student to find the presentation of visual material which best suits his individual learning processes, and to use these visual aids in conjunction with this text.
