This booklet presents a collection of briefs that underscore the importance of using children’s literature in early language and literacy classrooms. The first brief discusses the importance of libraries in the language and literacy development of learners. It provides a set of ideas and activities on using libraries meaningfully to support language development. The second brief highlights the importance of reading aloud to children. The brief explains the rationale for conducting read-alouds regularly and provides examples to demonstrate the processes involved in planning and preparing for a read aloud session in the classroom.
